Technically its own borough and fiercely proud of it, Newcastle-under-Lyme is the area's traditional market town: a pedestrianised high street with a market that's traded for 850 years, a strong pub and restaurant scene, and Keele University on the hill.
Housing runs the full range — Victorian villas around The Brampton, interwar semis in May Bank and Wolstanton, and premium family homes out towards Seabridge and Westlands.
Living there
The Westlands and Seabridge are the classic family destinations — quiet avenues, big gardens and catchment for the borough's best schools. Wolstanton and May Bank offer character semis 10 minutes' walk from the high street; the Brampton side has the town's grandest period stock.
